When the Northwestern Wildcats beat the Illinois Fighting Illini last night, they did so in special ‘By The Player' uniforms from Under Armour.
Here's the release from Under Armour:
Under Armour provided the technology, but the Wildcats WILL tell the story. The Northwestern Men’s Basketball team will wear a custom Under Armour uniform designed entirely by the Team. This one-of-a-kind uniform is all about one thing…THE PLAYERS.
A notebook with a series of 25 questions is all the UA Design Team was armed with as they sat at center court in Welsh-Ryan Arena in a circle of NU players and coaches last spring. Those 25 questions were the foundation for the first uniforms designed completely by the NU Men's Basketball Team. From Chicago Bulls-inspired pin striping to pre-game meal images, each hand-drawn icon tells a piece of the story that makes this team a family.
FAMILY, BROTHERHOOD and TRUST: The three words the players and coaches identified as the terms that embody the NU basketball team. They are placed around the school logo on the uniform.
JOHN HANCOCK CENTER: Not only a fixture in the Chicago skyline, this building has been the site of many team bonding and recruiting experiences.
CHICAGO SKYLINE: NU is "Chicago's BIG10 team" so the skyline was integrated into the uniform to represent the great city they play for.
EH! EH! EH!: As NU takes the court, you will undoubtedly hear the team chanting "Eh! Eh! Eh!" as they prep for battle.
HEART-SHAPED BASKETBALL: Coach Collins has a mantra he reiterates to his team day-in and day-out: "Love the game!" The heart-shaped basketball icon is a representation of this saying.
POUND THE ROCK: The teams' call to arms, their battle cry is "Pound the Rock."
The team's Under Armour ArmourLight uniforms are the lightest threads in the game, giving NU the ultimate advantage on the court when it comes to speed and mobility.
